SUBARU Fuel Economy Research - Compare Fuel Efficiency

Hi all, I've recently bought a my 07 Liberty 2. I wonder what fuel would give me better milage? I'm currently using Unleaded 95 and I think the car can do better. What are you getting? I reckon that 95 is the recommended RON. Doubt you'll see an improvement by going up to Maintenance and your driving style will probably have a bigger impact on fuel economy than fuel type ever will. Make sure wheels are properly balanced and aligned, and that your tyres are inflated to the correct pressure. Drive smoothly and minimize any unnecessary weight.

If that's solid paper, then the owner is effectively carrying around the equivalent of an extra passenger or two all the time — which obviously isn't going to help fuel economy. What sort of mileage is your car currently returning? Roughly km but need to empty the tank couple more times to get an ave. The manual didn't say need to put any premiums; I'm not an expert on all this as you can probably tell.

Seeing as the minimum we have here is 91, you're doing better no matter what you put in it. Like I said, this isn't a useful number, because there are too many uncontrolled variables that affect the result.

When you filled up at km, there was still an unknown volume of fuel in your tank, so you are significantly overestimating how much fuel your car is consuming. The next time you go to fill up, fill the tank as you normally do, and zero the trip meter. Drive the car until you need to refuel, then fill up the tank again, make a note of the distance travelled, and how many litres you put in.

Reset the trip meter, then later, rinse and repeat. So for example, if you refuelled when your trip meter read Also, if you do decide to change fuel types, it will take a few tankfuls before you'll get an accurate idea of how much of an effect the change has made.

Because you'll still have fuel in the tank when you refuel, the first couple of tanks will be influenced by the mix of higher with lower octane, so the actual octane level of the fuel being delivered to your engine will be somewhere between 91 and Then you also need to allow your ECU time to adjust to the new fuel.

I feel a difference between BP 91 and 95 but none between 95 and Due to an old battery, it takes longer to start the car with the BP 95 compared to Liberty When the car was 5 years younger, I squeezed k out of a tank, now around k, highway driving.

It took a few months back at 95 before mileage improved significantly. Also was told by mechanic during that time that engine injectors were quite dirty and it costs a bit to have them cleaned. So I won't go back. I covered this topic in a reply to a post a few years back. The car was a Forester with an EJ25 motor the same as your car will have.

Best tank — approx kms — avg about kms. Archive View Return to standard view. According to Liberty owners they've seen no difference between 91 and premium fuels.
